Staff Picks: Most Creative Salads

There's nothing like a good salad.

Vertical Pear SaladSeriously: some salads are super healthy, others are über delicious, many are high or low in protein and iron, some are ridiculously cool-looking (like the Vertical Pear Salad pictured to the left), and, sadly, a good amount are direct relatives of Plain Jane Boring. It really hits the spot for me when I can get a salad that falls under the category of all of the following three descriptions:

1) Nutritious 2) Delicious 3) Pretty

There's not one soul in existence out there roaming this ginormous world who'd be better at providing you with the most creative salads that can be delivered by DiningIn in Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Philadelphia and the Twin Cities than firsthand DiningIn employees themselves - and that's why I've rounded up the troops to provide you all with a list of the most creative salads you can find on our website!

Amanda G, Account Management Executive - The classic Caesar Salad is a staple in almost all restaurants that carry salads, but to get the Caesar salad exactly right is truly a form of art. The best Caesar Salads have the perfect mix of crisp lettuce, a crunchy and flavorful crouton and homemade Caesar dressing that isn't over-the-top creamy. I have to say, working for a restaurant company I have sampled a lot of Caesar salads and hands down, the one worth taking the plunge and indulging in a true delicacy is the 2013 Caesar Salad from Met Back Bay. The lettuce is a blend of romaine & endive, the croutons are toasted slightly and full of garlic (a major Caesar salad must!) and on top of the salad sits crispy parmesan pieces. You can even add chicken or salmon if you desire, but Met Bar’s Caesar Salad needs no assistance!

Lisseth L, Boston QC - The taste, the crunch and the juicy flavor of the Waldorf Salad made by Not Your Average Joe's (with multiple locations throughout Greater Boston) is a perfect choice for a healthy lunch or dinner. From the smell to the freshness to the sweetness of the cranberries to the slight sourness of the apple, this creative salad makes for a perfect combination.

Paulos B, Chicago Corporate Sales Representative - My favorite salad and the most creative salad I know is the Chopped Summer Fruit Salad from Emerald Loops Bar & Grill. This salad really surpassed my expectations and I order it every time. It has diced pear, apples, celery, dried cranberries, scallions, mandarin oranges, Gorgonzola cheese, and an amazing pear Gorgonzola dressing. If you are in the mood for something refreshing, filling and flavorful, this is a MUST try!

Newk's Favorite Salad

Meera A., Dallas Corporate Concierge - For the most creative salad I can think of, I have to go with Newk’s Favorite Salad (pictured above) from one of our newest restaurants in Dallas - Newk’s Eatery. The ingredients are always fresh, and their restaurant concept is a fantastic and unique combination of Louisiana Cajun-meets-New York Deli. The Newk’s Favorite Salad has grilled chicken breast, artichoke hearts, pecans, Gorgonzola cheese, dried cranberries, grapes, and homemade croutons tossed in their homemade Newk’s Sherry Vinaigrette. The combination of flavors provides a sweet, tangy, yet hearty experience. This salad is perfect for the upcoming Holiday Season!

Kara M, Philadelphia QC - The most delicious salad I’ve had to date was the Harvest Salad created by Café Brodo’s amazing chefs. The contrast of the strong bleu cheese and savory chicken with the sweet walnuts and fruit make for a mouthwatering, healthy treat!

John Y, Twin Cities Corporate Sales Representative - When I want a salad, I immediately think of one of the best salads in the Twin Cities – which is at Patrick’s Bakery and Café. Patrick’s is a French bistro that has fresh baked goods and everything is scratch made, and the Bistro Salad is my salad of choice. It starts with a large portion of fresh spring greens and is then topped with freshly poached and shredded chicken breast. Then, they pile on the tangy blue cheese crumbles, soft and chewy Craisins, crunchy walnuts and it’s finished it with fresh sliced grape tomatoes. They serve the salad with a flavorful house-made raspberry vinaigrette that is to die for. I usually get that salad and a small freshly baked baguette with sweet creamery butter, and all is right in the world!

The restaurant should accomplish the goal through sustainable methods of food production and efforts to raise the profile of cuisine on an international scale. It is hoped that through international recognition food exports will be increased, tourism to the country will rise and the economic status of that people will follow.
